1. The Himeji Castle
The Himeji Castle, also known as the White Heron Castle, is the most
beautiful castle I have seen in Japan. Himeji Castle was built
around the 1400s; the last renovation of this castle was done in 2015
The castle is now one of Japan’s national treasures.
With its breathtaking white exterior and wooden interior,
the castle is Considered one of the most beautiful castles in Japan.
2. Hirosaki Castle
In simple words, it is truly a beautiful place to visit.
Among all the castles in Japan, this castle has the perfect environment
because of its surrounding park. Which is also known as Hirosaki Castle Park.
There is a botanical garden inside, which has an entry fee, along with the Hirosaki Castle.
During the cherry blossom season, the park is perfect to visit with friends and family.
3. Inuyama Castle
As one of the oldest castles, Inuyama Castle is Japan’s national treasure.

the wars are now on display for the public to see, and the top of the
castle offers a 360-degree view of Inuyama town.
4. Kōchi Castle
The original Kochi Castle was built in 1603 but was burned down and rebuilt in 1749.
The Kōchi Castle is the only castle whose original structure is still preserved;
science at that time. The castle is full of historical monuments and artifacts.
You can see the city quite a bit from the upper floors of this hilltop castle.
5. Maruoka Castle
Muruoka Castle, also known as Mist Castle, is one of
the oldest castles in Japan. This castle was built in 1576.
There is a stairway to the top of the castle, which is very steep.
But once you can cross it, you will see a beautiful view of the surrounding plains.
Because it is on a small hilltop, the view is outstanding.
This castle is not that big, so it won’t take more than an hour to visit,
so don’t plan to go there for the day.
6. Matsumoto Castle (IYO)
Matsumoto Castle is also known as Crow Castle. This castle was built in 1603.
This castle has made its spot after the Himeji Castle in its beauty.
When entering the Castle, you will have to cross a bridge,
and after a bit of walking, you will be at the castle gates.
There is an opening ceremony every morning,
during which a castle guard announces the gate opening
with a drum beat and general uproar.
So, be sure to be there in the morning time.
7. Matsuyama Castle
Matsuyama Castle was built in the early seventeenth century.
A cable car is available so that you can climb the mountain with the cable car.
After entering the castle, you can see a lot of different batten armor
What was most interesting for me was the top floor of the castle.
From there, you can see Mt. Katsuyama and the whole city.
8. Matsue Castle
Matsue Castle was built in 1611. Although it does not look
big from the outside, the inside is more interesting.
There is a lake beside the castle where you can get a boat ride;
while you are on the boat, you will see the samurai’s home,
and the boat will cross under two bridges.
You also get a 360 view from the top of the castle, which is worth visiting.
9. Uwajima Castle
Uwajima Castle was built in 1601. Though it is not as big as
the other castles, it is cute. Each and every cast has its unique point.
Still, there are some showcased armor, some paintings,
and many more. Make sure to visit this castle whenever you get the chance.
10. Bitchū Matsuyama Castle
Bitchū Matsuyama Castle, also known as a castle in the sky,
was built in 1240. This is the highest fortress in Japan.
Around November and December, the castle is covered in thick clouds.
The exciting part is hiking up there,
which takes about 20 minutes from the nearest parking lot.
11. Hikone castle
Hikone Castle was completed in 1622.
This relatively small castle uniquely combines multiple architectural styles.
The stairs upward are very steep, but after you climb from there,
you can see Biwa Lake, the nation’s largest lake,
and that view you won’t want to miss.
Outside the inner moat, you will catch some scenic views at the
base of the castle, where a Genkyuen garden is.
12. Marugame Castle
Marugame Castle, also known as Kameyama Castle, has the
smallest keep among the original castles. It was built in 1597.
Marugame Castle is also quite famous for its cherry blossom season.
The climb up to the castle is a bit far, but it is worth it because
the view from the top is breathtaking. Then, you will see the
main keep’s front entrance. So make sure you give it a go.
